UGH!! I don't get AMERICA sometimes. A person, AN AMERICAN, is good enough to put their LIFE on the line for this COUNTRY, but is NOT good to do it being OPENLY GAY. And when it is FOUND that they ARE, then they ARE BOOTED out. It has been said by Sen. John McCain that its not the job of the Congress to appeal this because he apparently thinks it is UN-important. But it was SO important when it was put into affect in the first place. Hey, if they CAN handle a gun...then why is it a big deal. Its NOT like it is being asked if they can be able to wear a rainbow colored camo.
A new Washington Post-ABC News poll finds 75% of Americans support allowing gays and lesbians to serve openly in the U.S. military, a finding that could inject some much-needed energy into efforts to repeal the law that forces the military to implement a “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy. The Post reported:
The percentage of Americans who say they support gays openly serving is the same as a Post-ABC News poll found in July 2008; both are far above the 44 percent who said so in May 1993. In the new poll, majorities across party lines favor such a policy, with support among Democrats (82 percent) and independents (77 percent) higher than among Republicans (64 percent).
The poll also reveals several sharp demographic divides. Men (65 percent) and seniors (69 percent) are far less likely than are women (84 percent) and young adults (81 percent under age 30) to say that gays should be allowed to serve if they have disclosed their sexual orientation. Knowing a gay person makes a big difference: Among those who say they have a gay friend or family member, 81 percent support allowing gay people to serve openly, compared with 66 percent who say they do not know someone who is gay.
McCain said, “I’m not sure. I do know that the ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ policy has worked very well. We have the most professional, most capable military in the world. We’re in two wars, but I don’t believe this is the time to change the policy.”
Do YOU think it should be REPEALED?
